NEW SEASON!
I’m Bess, a 35-year-old dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher, based in Amsterdam. I grew up in Rotterdam and graduated from the dance department of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) in 2016. Since then, I’ve performed in a wide variety of dance and performance works across the Netherlands and internationally.
In my work, as both performer and teacher, I draw from a broad range of styles, including Modern Dance, Afro-Modern, Ballet, Burlesque, Physical Theatre, and various partner dance styles like Brazilian zouk, Salsa, Kizomba and Contact Improvisation. I’ve deepened my practice at places like École des Sables in Senegal and performed under inspiring directors such as Olaa Maffalani in Taste Taste.
Alongside my artistic work, I’m also a certified nurse with experience in both general hospitals and psychiatric care. Currently, I’m training as a sports/deep tissue massage therapist, a path that continues to enrich my understanding of the body.
I teach a diverse group of students, from beginners to professional dancers and film actors in training. Every Thursday evening, I host open group classes in Amsterdam that are accessible to anyone curious to dance, no experience needed.
Whether in class or performance, I’m most fascinated by the body as a tool for connection: with yourself, your dance partner(s), the space around you, the audience and the world. Dance is a universal language that doesn’t require words or perfection. Anyone can speak it.
My teaching is grounded in body awareness, physical communication, and freedom in movement, always with room for growth, laughter, and joy. Besides group classes, I offer private sessions focused on relaxation, self-awareness, and reconnecting with your body & mind, without the pressure to "perform" or do it right.
My classes combine professional knowledge with warmth, humor, and respect for each person’s unique journey. Whether you're here to grow, express, release, or simply move, everyone is welcome.
